Guide to the Good Life I met Derek Sivers at TEDGlobal, and find his posts always interesting. I have found this book very, very useful. Great book – great suggestion. The book teaches about the trichotomy of control. William Irvine, an academic philosopher in the USA (Irvine, 2009). After reading A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, by William B. A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy. Agree, and I was going to suggest a great book about Stoicism applied to modern life: “A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy” by William B. He has written a series of “book notes” – more than a review, not quite a precis of the book. I printed this out and hung it on my fridge. Irvine, I would say that this definition, while sort-of correct, really misses the point of Stoicism. In our lives we have either total control, partial control or no control. I just read the book A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by William B. Irvine, in A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, puts an interesting spin on Stoicism. In the book A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy the author gives an example of the benefits of negative visualization by comparing two fathers of young children. I read a very useful book called A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by William Irvine. An excellent modern guide to Stoicism already exists in the book A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by Prof. It's a really great summary of stoic ideas.
